A long section of serpentinized depleted mantle peridotite

Published in Science, 2024

This work reports the recovery of a 1,268 m-long core of serpentinized abyssal mantle peridotite from Atlantis Massif (IODP Expedition 399). The study documents detailed mineralogical and structural variations reflective of mantle depletion, melt transport fabrics, and hydrothermal alteration—offering unprecedented insights into deep mantle processes and their role in seafloor dynamics.
